Free city walking tours every 2nd Sunday through the Spandauer Vorstadt and Scheunenviertel: Jewish history and contemporary Jewish life
Until the end of 2025, we will be offering free city tours of Spandauer Vorstadt and Scheunenviertel in German and English every second Sunday of the month. Starting at the New Synagogue, we will trace the footsteps of Berlin’s oldest and most prominent Jewish institutions from 1672 to the present day. We visit the remains of Berlin’s oldest Jewish cemetery and the site of the world-renowned College of Jewish Studies and many other sites. We will learn about the establishment of the Jewish community, its efforts to achieve full equality, its flourishing at the turn of the century, its near destruction during the Nazi era, and its painstaking efforts to rebuild. Along the way, we will encounter personalities such as Regina Jonas, the first female rabbi in world history, and the writer Franz Kafka, who spent the last year of his life in Berlin.
Meeting Point: In front of the entrance of the New Synagogue, Oranienburger Str. 28-30 10117 Berlin
